Think Love Information desires to provide us a story that we can believe, that we have common ground to understand and a moment to reflect upon the day to day activities of our own lives. Think Love Send Love Information has no set lineup of stories. We will take them one by one and see what the day brings.
Today's story comes from Montreal Canada and was given the title Parenting the Parents, as this is something that we have some experience to talk about, we think this is a story that is reflective of this website's goal. The story beings when Nadia, the daughter of Maria Babiak, 88 years old, found her mother lying on the floor of her apartment, who is living alone in the Verdun duplex she's called home for half a century. Nadia lives only two blocks from her mother and visited every other day on her way home from work until that day she found her on the floor. At age 88 Maria didn't have the strength to get herself off the floor and call an ambulance that day. She spent a week in the hospital recuperating now everyone was taking a hard look at Mamma Maria and became aware of arthritis in the legs and the beginnings of senility (could this also be a form of alzheimer's). Nadia was told by the doctors that she needed to see her mother every day. Nadia was a good daughter and did as she was told, cleaning, grocery shopping and visiting her mother. It didn't take long for Nadia to become exhausted by the routine. It happens to everyone who is not trained as a caregiver to become one overnight. There aren't enough hours in the day to hold down a job and take care of your parent(s). Nadia took a leave of absence from work to take care of her mother. It turned her life upside down, but she became closer to her mother than she ever was - and I am sure that she really got to know the real person behind the cover of "Mother". This is something that more and more people living around the world are going to confront these days. As we live longer and loner the child will become the parent and the parent will become the child. The child will take care of their parents in ways that they didn't think possible - and they will come full circle in their love for their parent by learning in the end that their parent was a human being as fragile as they were as a baby. It is love that allows you to take care of your parent. It is love that allows you to love your parent, even when they are turning your world upside down.Created on ... October 31, 2009.
